Regulatory Harmonization & Standardization
The Regulatory Harmonization & Standardization program under the World Islamic Economy Development (WIED) initiative aims to streamline, unify, and elevate the regulatory landscape across Muslim-majority countries and global Islamic economic sectors. By fostering alignment in policies, standards, and certifications, WIED supports seamless cross-border trade, investment security, and market confidence in halal, Islamic finance, and other key industries.

To develop, advocate, and implement unified standards, regulations, and best practices—empowering stakeholders to operate efficiently across jurisdictions with Shariah compliance and transparency.
Key Focus Areas
Standardization of Halal Certification
- Collaborate with halal authorities worldwide to unify halal certification criteria and processes
- Promote mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) to facilitate cross-border halal trade
- Develop digital halal certification platforms for transparency and traceability
Islamic Finance Regulatory Alignment
- Support harmonized regulatory frameworks for Islamic banking, takaful, sukuk, and fintech
- Advocate for best practices in Shariah governance and risk management
- Facilitate dialogue among regulators to align licensing, reporting, and compliance standards
Cross-Sector Regulatory Cooperation
- Align standards in emerging sectors: halal pharmaceuticals, ethical healthcare, Islamic tourism, and waqf management
- Encourage development of common guidelines for ethical and sustainable business practices
